If you have specialised knowledge, or some amazing true stories to tell, it might have crossed your mind to write a book. I’m talking non-fiction here, not Harry Potter.

Recently I’ve been collaborating with a couple of people on projects that I call ‘book extraction’.  These people don’t have the time or writing skills to get their book onto paper, so they use me as the conduit. They talk, I record. Next step is transcription, then knocking out a first draft. We collaborate on revisions until the final draft is all shiny and nice.

These days a book doesn’t even need to touch paper. You can publish straight to Kindle from your Amazon account, charging a negligible amount for downloads to build up your readership. If your book turns out to be really popular, there’s always the chance a paper publisher will pick it up.
